When Can a Tyre Be Repaired?

In many cases, a punctured tyre can be repaired. However, there are specific conditions that must be met for a repair to be both safe and effective. Our goal is to ensure your safety and avoid future issues, so we follow strict guidelines when deciding whether a tyre is repairable.

What We Can Repair:

  • Punctures in the Tread Area: Most punctures that occur in the middle section of the tyre (the tread) can be repaired. If you’ve driven over a nail or screw, we can patch it up, restoring the tyre’s integrity.

What We Can’t Repair:

  • Sidewall Damage: If the puncture is on the sidewall or shoulder of the tyre, it cannot be safely repaired. This is because the sidewall bears a significant amount of stress, and any repair in this area is likely to fail, leading to another puncture or even a blowout.

  • Tyres Driven On While Flat: If a tyre has been driven on after losing air (flat), the sidewall can be damaged. This often makes the tyre unrepairable because it compromises the tyre’s structural integrity.

  • Severe Damage: If the tyre has large cuts, bulges, or if the damage extends beyond the tread, it’s likely unsafe to repair, and the tyre will need replacing.

☎️What We Ask When You Call Us

When you call Mobile Tyre Xpress for a puncture repair, we’ll ask you a few key questions to determine whether the tyre can be safely repaired. This helps us ensure we bring the right tools and equipment to handle the job effectively.

We’ll Ask:

  • Where are you located? (We’ll need your exact location to get to you as quickly as possible.)

  • Can you see anything in the tyre? (Knowing the type of object in the tyre can help us assess the damage.)

  • Have you hit any potholes or kerbs? (Damage from impacts like this can often affect the tyre’s integrity beyond just the puncture, potentially making it unrepairable.)
